Term 1 Holiday maths.

Problem solving
  1. Moana set her digital watch at 13:00:00 on the last day of April.
Unfortunately the watch loses 11 seconds a day.
What is the time on Moana’s watch when it is 13:00:00 on the last day of May?
There are 31 days in may. 31 x 11 = 341
If you convert 341 into minutes it would be 5 minutes and 41 seconds
Then subtract 5 mins and 41 secs from 13:00:00 which is….
12:54:19
2. In parking meters downtown, you can get 15 minutes parking for 50c.
Dad put $3.50 into the parking meter at 3.15pm.
5 o’clock
(7 groups of 50’s in 3.50)
15 x 7 = 105
105 is 1 hour and 45 mins
3.15 + 1 hour and 45 mins = 5.00pm
At what time did the parking meter expire?
3. There are four children in Marie's family.
She is less than 11 years old and is the oldest.
There's a two year age difference to twins, Grace and Lily, who come next.
Tom, who is older than 5 is two years younger than the twins.
How old are each of the children?
Marie - 10 years old.
Grace - 8 years old.
Lily - 8 years old.
Tom - 6 years old.
